Background:

Wiki!
The wiki kind of assumes you've played both games, the succinct version is that the Alcohol Demon is the personification of all of Ethan Thomas' demons. He's technically a hallucination brought on by a cult called the Oro that's aiming to kill Ethan. Though he's on Ethan's side so obviously the Oro aren't that great at this.

The game calls him a hallucination, but he's definitely there in some physical sense as he impacts the environment and interacts with people and objects. He's almost an exact duplicate of Ethan with the exception of having a nasty scar down his throat, which is reminiscent to what Oro do to themselves to give themselves a sonic sound ability that Ethan has naturally. Though headcanoned, it's safe to assume that the Demon isn't just a copy of Ethan but some sort of construct made to resemble him.

Ethan is a Metro City police officer who trailed and caught a horrific serial killer in the first game, while simultaneously being hunted by a cult called the Oro. Ethan experiences a lot of supernatural events in the first game that aren't full explained, but sets up for the sequel that's basically all supernatural stuff. In the sequel, Ethan has become an alcoholic, he refuses to associate with the Metro Serial Crime Unit anymore, and he's basically a homeless drunk who lives in an abandoned building. He's forcibly brought back to the SCU when they receive a call from someone associated with the serial killer from the first game who asks for him specifically.

His first mission is to track this person down, which means heading into a bunch of abandoned buildings filled with addicts and homeless people who have been enraged by supernatural means and are sort of feral zombies. While hiding from them in an abandoned shop with no electricity there's a television broadcasting static. Upon approaching it and tuning the rabbit ears of the tv he gets this video telling him more about the story and reveals the first appearance of the Alcohol Demon.

He'll pop up again and again on various TV's and radios throughout the game, but he doesn't make his first physical appearance until about halfway through. While undergoing some medical procedures the Oro cause Ethan to become delirious and hallucinate. He tries to escape the hospital but it's been overrun by Oro creatures, and when it seems like someone from the force has shown up to help, the Demon appears behind him holding a gun against his head and talking to Ethan casually about how the officer was already dead and Ethan should keep moving.

Here's a video of this scene. And also a shot of the creepy stuttering the Demon does before teleporting.

Ethan tries to get to him, but he vanishes right before the officer gets the door open. Upon waking from the hallucination and heading out into the actual hospital, Ethan later finds out that the officer that had tried to help him had been killed long before this event.

He shows up again when Ethan is being flown to a remote location. Ethan is napping and turns to find that the pilot has been suddenly replaced with the Demon who snarks at him once again, before pushing the wheel and sending the plane crashing towards the ground. As soon as he disappears he's replaced by the pilot who's dead. It's not clear why he died other than he's bleeding from his eyes, but it's obvious the Demon killed him, though it's not really apparent why.

The Demon never appears when he could be really useful, like when Ethan is being attacked or when he's trapped, but does seem to want to help him for unknown reasons.

Here's a pic. Ethan is for a full body image since I can't find any shots of his feet.

Ethan Thomas

the Alcohol Demon

Personality: Basically the Demon is the only one in the entire game that knows what the hell is going on. He was created by the Oro to dissuade Ethan from progressing to his true calling, but he spends the entire game pretty much helping him and pointing out things he should be doing.

He first shows up in the beginning of the game, and kind of serves as a sort of tutorial, telling Ethan where to go and what to do, albeit in a very antagonistic way. He keeps popping up throughout the game to give little tips and hints, both about gameplay mechanics and the story, so he's really quite helpful. He just tends to not be there at the most critical times.

Ethan finds him annoying and a sign of his own crumbling mental state so he tends to ignore him. At one point the Demon physically attacks him when he refuses to drink and fuel his alcoholism, and Ethan seems to kill him, only to have him reappear later claiming that's exactly what he wanted, since by 'killing him' he effectively cured his alcoholism.

While he does kill someone, and causes Ethan to become delirious and even attacks him once, he's not really a bad guy. He basically just wants Ethan to accept who he is, maybe take a load off and have a drink or seven. He's a horrible enabler, and if he had his way everyone would just give in to their vices and the world would be a happier place.

He's sarcastic and caustic and easy to frustrate with silly human emotions. He just wants people to admit their flaws and then either fix them, or stop bitching about them. He's willing to help with either, especially if the problem requires bludgeoning someone to death or drinking copious amounts of alcohol.

Here's a video of what he looks and sounds like, and more importantly the weirdly disjointed way he moves. But be aware that this is full of spoilery spoilers for the game.

Abilities/Additional Notes:

Powers:

  • Summon Mannequins: He can summon immovable unbreakable mannequins which look like this and function like this. In other words they won't move if you're looking at them. And are creepy as fuck.

  • Endless Alcohol: You heard right. Never ending alcohol he can make out of nothing. Drink up!

  • Endless Supply of Baseball Bats: Don't ask me why but he can create Baseball bats. Also if he throws them they'll disappear after they hit the ground.

  • Phasing: He can phase in and out of existence which makes it look like he's teleporting, though that's not really what he's doing. He doesn't have to, but if he wants he can coat everything in ooze when he phases. It doesn't do anything, it's just gross.

  • TV's and radios: He can posses radios and TV's and use them as 2-way communicators. If you break the TV when he's in it it will actually injure him somewhat.

  • Telekinesis: He can throw objects with his mind. Nothing much bigger than a desk, though he can rip doors off the hinges.

  • Creepy Mask: Okay, not really evil, but it is a thing, and its stuck to his face. It's carved in fancy Oro designs and makes him have a constant smug sort of smirk. He never takes it off, in fact it probably is his face. However if he needed or wanted to take it off for some reason, I have elaborate headcanon-y reasons for why he doesn't look like Ethan and looks like one of the Oro under there. (Namely this Oro.)

He doesn't eat or drink, or breathe, he doesn't have a circulatory system so he can't be drugged. He's also not technically alive so he can't be killed. He doesn't feel pain, nor does he have many emotions. But he can be injured to the point of phasing out of existence for a while.

3Step Communicator:
An old-school handheld tv. He can posess electronics so he doesn't need a keyboard to type.
